My original idea for my Halloween was to make a giant batch of spiderweb cupcakes, but then my mom was just like, "nope, we can do way better than that" and we ended up making 5 different types of cupcakes (two more to come!), and she was totally right. Why stop with only spiderweb cupcakes when there's so many other great things to make? Gotta be more creative than that.
I wasn't going to not make my spiderweb cupcakes though...that would have just been silly. I wanted them...so I made them. They couldn't be any simpler.
If you can frost a cupcake, then you can definitely make spiderweb cupcakes. There's really nothing to them! I didn't have a chance to do this, but next time, I definitely want to make some chocolate spiders to place on top of the cupcakes. Sounds hard, but it's really not at all. All you would have to do is either print out or draw your own image of a spider, place a small square of wax paper over the top, and then with a little bit of melted chocolate that's been put in a ziploc "piping" bag, trace over the spider image. Super easy! I'm definitely going to make sure I do that next time, it would really help bring the cupcakes to a whole new level...although I have to say, I really love how they are now!
Spiderweb Cupcakes
Things You'll Need
cupcakes, any flavor
white frosting
food coloring (I used Wilton icing gels colors, this is optional)
black decorating gel
toothpicks
How to Make Spiderweb Cupcakes
Begin by coloring your white frosting, if desired. I used purple, but white, orange, and even an electric green would work for these cupcakes. Frost the cupcakes with the desired amount of frosting, trying to smooth the tops as much as possible.
Using the black decorating gel, pipe four concentric circles over the top of the cupcake. Carefully drag a toothpick from the center of the cupcake outwards, so that the gel gets carried through to create a spiderweb effect. Done!
What a great idea! We are doing a Halloween party this year, and I definitely need to try this idea out for cupcakes! :)
