About Me

Hello!

My name is Nina.  I’m a recent graduate of Columbia University, and I am currently dividing my time between hunting for a design job, learning new graphic design and architecture trend, and reading/researching/learning about baking…and then there’s also the actual baking…and the eating!  I do those things too. I probably spend half my time looking up recipes, looking at photos on tastespotting.com, and reading every baking blog I can find.  I’m hooked.  On weekends, I spend a good portion of my time in the kitchen, baking one thing or another, and the other portion of my time in my living room taking pretty pictures of food.  Let's just say that I love my weekends.

I’ve been baking for as long as I can remember.  Whether it was making strawberry shortcake with my mom, or baking Christmas cookies in my aunt’s kitchen, I’ve been doing it for a while now, and still enjoy it just as much, if not more than I did back in the day.

Here is a list of some of my favorite things:

  1. Chocolate…I can’t seem to ever get enough, and there is no such thing as too much.
  2. Rainbow cookies…there are simply no words.
  3. The smell of freshly baked bread.
  4. Taking a batch of perfectly domed cupcakes out of the oven really makes me smile.
  5. Chocolate chip cookies that are crisp on the outside, but sooo gooey in the center.
  6. Strawberries with fresh whipped cream might just be the best dessert ever.

I owe a couple of people some thank you's.  First, to my sister, who is just as obsessed with baking as I am, and is always there to show me a new recipe she’s found or to listen to all my crazy baking-related fantasies.  Then there’s my dad, who’s helped me make this blog look as lovely as it does, and has taught me pretty much everything I know about making photographs look their best.  See how yummy those desserts look?  I’ll take some of the credit for actually making them, but the rest goes to my dad.  He taught me how to bring out the best of every photo and make it truly shine.

I also need to thank my cousin, Gina.  She is the person behind the extremely successful blog, SkinnyTaste and she's taught me pretty much everything I know about blogging and food photography.  Learning all these skills and techniques from a pro is pretty cool, I think. I hope that my blog can grow to be even half as successful as her's.

But most importantly, there’s my mom.  She has literally taught me EVERYTHING I know that is baking-related, and has spent way too many hours to count in the kitchen with me.  She’s taught me how to make some amazing cream puffs, the best techniques for working with fondant, and how to make a killer strawberry shortcake.  She’s made me some pretty incredible homemade birthday cakes for me (amaretto soaked chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is my absolute favorite…it’s SO GOOD), and has never minded me spending hours messing around in her kitchen (so long as I left it spotless when I finished, obviously).  My mom is completely responsible for giving me this obsession I have with baking (not that I’m complaining).  So thanks, mom, you’re the best.

But enough with the sentimental thank yous.  It’s time to get baking!
